February 2023
Feb 15th:
Thank you for the great support for our no-uniform day yesterday. Over €2,310 was raised which will be divided between the Irish Heart Foundation and Trocaire.
We are closed tomorrow and Friday for our February mid-term.
On Monday 6th March class and our Junior and Senior Infants will begin a stint of gymnastics. These classes will wear the school tracksuit on Mondays while the gymnastics are on.
Feb 9th
Our next charity collection takes place next Tuesday, the 14 th of February in aid of The Irish Heart Foundation and Trócaire.
We are all witnessing the devastation in Syria and Turkey in the aftermath of the earthquakes at the weekend. Thousands of people have been left homeless and struggling to survive in sub-zero temperatures. Trócaire will use our donation to give help where it is most needed.
Today in Ireland more people die from heart and stroke-related illness than from any other cause of death. The Irish Heart Foundation is the national charity dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke.
Leading an active lifestyle is key to fighting both heart disease and stroke. On Tuesday we will be doing something active in each class. The children can wear their own sports/active wear and we are asking them to bring in a small donation to assist The Irish Heart Foundation and Trócaire in their vital work.
Many thanks for your continued support. It is much appreciated.
This week in conjunction with our Parent Association and Khans bookstore we have run a very successful Book Fair. Running alongside this was a story writing competition. All prize winners have received a book but the quality of the stories produced in recent weeks was outstanding.
This year has seen a return to most of our pre- Covid routines in the school. One thing that we are now looking at is a return to our implementation of our school uniform code. Class teachers will end emails regarding days for full school uniforms and school tracksuit days. Likewise in classrooms we are now asking children not to wear hats/caps or coats in classrooms (we are keeping rooms ventilated but there is adequate heat).
Next week we are closed on Thursday and Friday for our February mid-term.
February 1st:
Thank you for all the great support our Healthy Lunch Week initiative got last week. As we mentioned it would be fantastic to see these healthy lunches continue throughout the school year.
The annual Book Fair takes place in the school hall from Tuesday February 7th to Thursday - February 9th 2023. There will be a great selection of books available to buy with some books for as little as €1.
The following is the attendance schedule.....
Tuesday February 7th - 3rd to 6th class
Wednesday February 8th - Junior Infants to 2nd class
Thursday February 9th - ASD classes + children who were absent
The Parents’ Association has kindly agreed to help out on the day.
Thank you for supporting the Book Fair.
Last week was the closing date for acceptance of Admission forms for Junior Infants for the school year 23/24. We hope to issue emails on Monday regarding offers.
At our most recent board meeting we discussed an update on the new build. At present we are still awaiting the award of the tender to the successful building contractor. We also looked at some traffic developments that are proposed for the Granges and Freshford Road. Ms Sheena Flynn has been appointed to a vacant Assistant Principal 2 position and another post will be filled in the next month. Our school maths policy and Pupil retention policy were adopted by the board and will be uploaded onto our school website in the coming week.
To ease traffic congestion around the Granges Road we are leaving the gates in the school open till 9.30am.
I am attaching two letters. The first is a letter related to the delivery of the RSE program in our school. The second letter is from our Parent Association and gives a great overview of some of the events and activities happening in our school in coming months.
